Job Description

The Merchandise Planner within the Bob’s Discount Furniture organization plays a vital role by assuring that we have optimum inventory levels and availability by performing strategic sales analysis and recommendations for optimization strategies.

The primary function and responsibility of this position is home decor inventory management and development of sales analysis across Bob’s Discount Furniture.  Responsible for sales analytics and replenishment strategies, executing article transitions, maintaining network balance through parameters, and collaborating with internal and external cross functional partners. 


  • Order, track and manage the inventory of items (skus and/or vendors).  This includes, but is not limited to, sku analysis, purchase order creation and tracking, vendor shipping performance, adjustments to forecast based on rate of sale, appointment scheduling, and inventory reduction strategies.
  • Develop and executes weekly sales dashboard to increase sales volume and provide Buyer with analytics to monitor performance by category.  Create classification dashboard to analyze item level performance. 
  • Utilizes SAP and other systems to execute and monitor exception reports and daily analytics for all business metrics; taking appropriate and timely action to prevent stock outs, minimize weeks of supply, and expedite delivery to fill potential backorders.
  • Obtain and maintain a complete understanding of merchandise and classification performance.  Understand the merchandising direction, advertising plans, etc. in order to make intelligent planning decisions.
  • Adhere to established parameters for ordering merchandise and question as necessary.  Pay attention to the needs of the business and work with management to update merchandise projections, formulas, tools, etc.
  • Foster strong relationships between the Vendor Community, Replenishment Department and the other departments within Bob’s Discount Furniture (timely responsiveness, etc.).
  • Manages article and min/max set up and maintenance in SAP.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in inventory planning, supply chain, and forecasting analytics.  Furniture and accessory planning preferred.
  • Preferred competence on SAP, Power BI, Demand Solutions, and other applicable tools
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite – to include advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent communication skills- both verbal and written
  • Strong listening skills
  • Self-directed individual who can work independently and yet collaborate with team members cross-functionally as necessary
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent mathematical reasoning -- The ability to understand and analyze sales numbers and inventory management principles
  • Excellent time management skills -- Managing one's own time and the time of others
  • Ability to use critical thinking -- Using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches
