Job Description

The Merchandise Compliance Coordinator will be the main point of contact for all products and vendor related registrations and will provide support for all required compliance documents and onboarding as required by Bob’s Discount Furniture.    This position will ensure that all vendors doing business with the company understand and comply with all federal and state laws and regulations as they may be amended from time to time.  The coordinator will work alongside the Merchandising team to obtain new vendor / product documentation to ensure compliance is met and maintained. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships and performance of our vendor and factories, including vendor and product onboarding.  Conduct quarterly audits of each vendor / factory.
  • Develop and direct the standard processes and data governance policies within the Merchandising  department
  • Works closely with 3rd party testing agencies (Bureau Veritas Group, etc.) to evaluate “best in class” practices related to regulatory requirements, safety, and structural adequacy of general-purpose furniture.
  • Manage the liaison between regulatory bodies, trade partners and relevant internal departments by providing them with best-in-class information and advisory services
  • Ensure all procedures and vendors are in compliance with all federal and state laws and regulation.
  • Undertake continuous analysis of the regulatory environment, with particular regard to product regulation, safety requirements, and communicating them in a clear and concise way to other departments within the company.
  • Participation in cross-functional (e.g., Finance, Accounting, Logistics, DC Operations, etc.) to support new business opportunities to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
  • Conduct site visits to maintain relationships, provide hands-on regulatory training, and provide compliance oversight.
  • Facilitate review meetings with legal department and governmental agencies (e.g., CPSC, etc.) to maintain relationships, obtain resolution to specific issues, and clarify requirements.
  • Participate in industry associations and regulatory groups to gain industry knowledge, establish relationships, and promote the Bob’s Discount Furniture brand
  • Provide feedback to governmental agencies on proposed rules to favorably impact changes and clarify regulatory interpretations.
  • Facilitate workshops, prepares new training tools, and provides one-on-one training to ensure compliance standards and performance targets are met.
  • Annual development and amendments for the Vendor Compliance manual, including issuance, tracking, auditing and record keeping.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years related work experience in business, workforce development, or related field, or equivalent combination of degree and experience.
  • Three to five years of experience in regulatory/compliance/product development/legal/ within the retail industry.  Preferred furniture industry experience. Candidates who are recent graduates will also be considered if they have meaningful experience from internships or other projects.
  • Interest in compliance and regulatory aspects of merchandise product and supporting a dynamic Merchandising team.
  • Dynamic personality with willingness to grow and help create the role.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple projects successfully, often with competing deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as this position interfaces with all other functional areas of the Company and needs to respond to input from other members of management, as well as interface with sales team and external contacts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confidence to function as part of a broader team that sometimes may have differing opinions and perspectives.
  • Strong sense of urgency, flexibility and ability to work in a fast paced, priority changing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and willingness to learn
  • Understanding  of product safety  and regulations, especially in the furniture industry
  • Ability to work independently in developing and maintaining compliance related policies, structure and tracking.
  • Familiarity with 3rd party testing companies / organizations
  • Collaborate vertically and horizontally as well as interact with legal and regulatory agencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced graduate degree and/or certifications in the related field.
