Job Description

Summary/Objective

This position directs the transportation safety management process and provides overall support and guidance all of BDF’s local transportation operation locations. Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager primary responsibility is to ensure that the company is in compliance and adheres to all FMCSA (DOT) regulation guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement DOT policies and programs

  • Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics through educational seminars and webinars on a regular basis

  • Review existing policies and procedures

  • Adhere to all the rules and regulations

  • Work with LP to set up a new employee on-boarding process for safety

  • Conduct risk assessment

  • Enforce preventative measures

  • Recruit and hire new safety employees if necessary

  • Identify process bottlenecks and offer timely solutions

  • Ensure all the drivers have valid Class A Driver’s License and DOT Physicals 

  • Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes

  • Oversee workplace repair, installations and any other work that could harm employees' safety

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills

  • Oversee all drug and alcohol screening processes  ( pre, clearinghouse, random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion )

  • Maintain all driver employee files

  • Maintain all driver accident incidents to include investigations, monitoring and filing of reports

Competencies

  • Intermediate knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint.

  • Working knowledge of the performance management/ monitoring systems

  • Working knowledge of federal and state safety laws, particularly FMCSR standards.

  • Analysis and identification of risk trends, problems and solutions.

  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely using appropriate mediums (for example, face-to-face, e-mail, and presentations), listen effectively, demonstrate understanding, and clarify meaning for others.

  • Ability to analyze, define, diagnose, and resolve problems based on sound logic and rationale.

  • Ability to develop, coach, and mentor others including the ability to provide development experiences and network opportunities, advise, and teach to prepare others for effective job performance.

  • Ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team, including those holding divergent and/or opposing views and goals.

  • Understand and apply meaningful operations and safety performance metrics.

  • Possess extensive knowledge of FMCSA and Clearinghouse regulations

Supervisory Responsibility

Currently not applicable since this is a new position but may have direct hourly reports in the future.

Work Environment

Primarily based in the CT Distribution Center in an office environment with the ability to telecommute. Large amount of administrative duties to include record maintenance. Majority of time will be spent on phone communication and virtual meetings.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the responsibilities, the employee is required to talk and hear.

  • The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle paperwork or type

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands.

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close and peripheral

  • The employee is required to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

Expected Hours of Work and Travel

  • Schedule is typically Monday through Friday and hours may vary. Periodic travel with overnight stay to other Bob’s transportation locations

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a transportation environment working as a safety/ DOT specialist

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associates degree or higher preferred in Logistics, Supply Chain or Transportation

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Member of a state / federal trucking organization

  • Completion of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Compliance Course

  • Decision Driver Instructor Certification
