Job Description

The primary function of a Director of Operations is to direct the Warehouse, Distribution, Building, Inventory Management and related operations for assigned facility.  This position reports to the Regional VP of DC Operations & Logistics.  Positions reporting to this job are Managers for Receiving, Returns, Assembly and Shipping departments.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide vision and leadership to ensure all warehouse operational guidelines, safety compliance and protocols are adhered to, productivity standards are maintained and continuous improvements as well as new ways of operating are part of the culture
  • Lead by example adhering to high moral principles of professional standards
  • Ensures that Customer Sales & Service is maintained at the highest priority
  • Ensure the development of team through communication, coaching, and corrective action
  • Interact with other departments to ensure smooth and accurate flow of information
  • Partner with HR with recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, disciplining, and promoting persons for the DC as needed
  • Partner with Loss Prevention to ensure Facility and Asset Security is maintained at the highest level possible
  • Enforce housekeeping standards to provide a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Maintain physical condition of warehouse by inspection, repair, and contracted maintenance
  • Achieve financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions
  • Maintain open communication channels with Third Party Home Delivery Operation as well as Company Delivery Depot Locations serviced out of the facility

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years Warehouse Management experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and WMS (Red Prairie and SAP a plus)
  • Customer Service experience
  • Excellent verbal and listening skills
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills and the ability to lead and manage people
  • Proven analytical, mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills
  • Ability to use sound judgment and decision making
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Good coordination skills -- Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions
  • Excellent problem identification skills -- Identifying the nature of problems
  • Excellent time management skills -- Managing one's own time and the time of others
  • Ability to use critical thinking -- Using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches
  • Excellent identification of key causes – Identifying the things that must be changed to achieve a goal
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit up to 100% of the time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
  • Experience in Big Ticket or Furniture industry
