Job Description

The primary function of the Receiving Manager is to directly manage the day to day operations of the department and staff according to company guidelines, while ensuring all deadlines are met. He/she will oversee the safe receipt and storage of all goods. The Receiving Manager must be able to adjust and adapt to the changing job priorities and requirements while maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. The Receiving Manager must also maintain open communication between all departments and direct reports to maintain a consistent work flow while adhering to all policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement and enforce the warehouse operational policies and procedures regarding the receiving, handling and storage of product
  • Monitor daily operations, changes in procedures, department structure, and any additions or changes in personnel to ensure optimum utilization of staff
  • Manage Stocking/Utilities staff through effective recruitment, training and development of all employees
  • Review daily payroll hours ensuring all hours are correct
  • Liaise between all departments as appropriate
  • Monitor department work productivity, through daily/weekly reports, and recommends any improvements or changes to increase safety, work moral and work efficiency through motivation, organization and encouragement.
  • Communicate and respond to daily e-mails in a timely fashion, keeping all informed and up to date on issues.
  • On occasion or when necessary assist in practical “hands-on” work in order to maintain moral and make sure work is accomplished in a timely fashion
  • Plan the arrangement of goods within the warehouse and organize special requirements for certain stock
  • People Management
  • Counsels employees on job opportunities, which will enhance their warehouse development and keep staff informed on current events, problems or changes within the department or company as a whole
  • Work organized by Supervisors and/or Leads
  • Brief staff through periodic or one-on-one meetings
  • Coaching, counseling and disciplining employees ensuring all warehouse standards are met or exceeded
  • Reviewing daily payroll hours ensuring all hours are correct
  • Writing performance reviews for all employees to maintain continuous learning, growth and development
  • Reinforce critical behaviors and recognize associates as appropriate
  • Follow up with associates and answer questions in a timely manner
  • Share appropriate level of information regarding department goals and building focuses to associates

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent of 2+ years managing receiving, handling and storage functions in a warehouse environment
  • 2+ years people management experience
  • Mathematical aptitude; ability to think analytically
  • Accountable, responsible, reliable
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Must be adaptable and had proven success in a fast paced and physically demanding warehouse environment (ability to stand and walk for considerable amounts of time 75%+)
  • Strong verbal/written communication and organizational skills
  • Skilled at multi-tasking and managing competing priorities
  • Working knowledge SAP
  • Detail oriented and accurate
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel in particular)
