Job Description

The purpose of this role is to manage the planning and execution of Domestic Inbound deliveries from U.S./Mexico/Canada origins to Bob’s various locations, while providing accurate communications to internal and external customers and partners. 

With thousands of  domestic truck moves per year to Bob’s facilities in the USA in support of our growing number of furniture stores – this position supports the efficient inbound moves  of domestic merchandise to final nationwide distribution centers with emphasis on over-the-road and intermodal moves. The position includes frequent interaction with Bob’s internal management, purchasing, receiving and inventory control departments, trucking companies, brokers and associated 3PL’sThe Bob’s inbound network will continue to become more complex with additional DC’s and increasing shipment volumes.  This position will ensure continuity of service to the business and to create an environment of continuous improvement within the logistics team.  The role is designed as 40 hours weekly however flexibility in work hours is required to support the international aspect of the role and to meet the fluctuations of workload and/or projects.  At times late night and/or early morning conference calls with Asia Control Towers are expected to occur. Periodic North America based travel is required to foster relationships and improve processes with Bob’s DC management teams, domestic vendors and various transportation companies.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the planning and execution of domestic freight shipments from vendors and DC-to-DC shipments

  • Work closely with the replenishment/forecasting department, merchandising, and the vendor community to ensure visible, smooth, cost-effective shipment flow, and as needed, exception management resolution

  • Responsible for understanding and leveraging capabilities of transportation technology to improve department productivity and cost management using TMS, Project 44, yard management, SAP systems

  • Coordinate, analyze, and publish domestic freight metrics/scorecards to monitor service providers to exceed company service and cost goals

  • Support the domestic freight negotiations and final award

  • Maximize backhaul opportunities with full utilization of Bob’s private fleet

  • Manage Prepaid vendors by converting to collect freight terms and/or placing Prepaid vendor shipments in Project 44 system

  • Ensure internal processes are documented and team is cross –trained on day to day operations

  • Support Departmental Projects and Initiatives as required

  • Develop, implement and manage domestic operational procedures

  • Creates, builds and maintains excellent relationships with key suppliers both internal and external

  • Monitors shipment status in the department, identifies incidents and ensures resolution of incident

  • Supervises staff, responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and developing staff

  • Continuously monitors supplier performance and develops improvement plan when required

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 3+ years Domestic Freight Industry, Logistics or Supply Chain experience

  • 1+ years experience managing people

  • Demonstrated experience working with carrier contracts

  • Successful project management experience in the freight, supply chain and logistics arena

  • Evidence of freight network management skills

  • Previous work experience with a domestic transportation management system

  • Ability to prioritize workload across competing demands

  • Detailed knowledge of the domestic freight industry and carrier networks

  • Strong awareness of driver hours of service and domestic regulatory requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Good numerical literacy and reasoning and analytical skills

  • Understanding of the principles of Supply Planning, Execution, and Stock Control

  • Knowledge of Customer Service Principles

  • Strong follow-up and decision making skills

  • Self-starter, independent thinker, and creative problem solver

  • Advanced MS Excel skills

  • Excellent data management skills

  • Highly effective communication skills and ability to influence others
