Job Description

The primary function of the Operations Manager is to direct the Shipping department (1st and 2nd shift), Returns, Clearance, QC/ERD departments, and related operations for our Distribution Center in Aberdeen, MD. This person would also ensure that customer sales and service is maintained at the highest priority.  This position reports to the Director of Distribution Center Operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide vision and leadership to ensure all warehouse operational guidelines, safety compliance and protocols are adhered to, productivity standards are maintained and continuous improvements as well as new ways of operating are part of the culture
  • Initiate corrective action and interaction with other departments to ensure smooth and accurate flow of information
  • Partner with HR on recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, disciplining and promoting associates
  • Ensure the development of the team through communication, coaching and corrective action
  • Maintain the physical condition of the warehouse by inspection, repair and contracted maintenance, and will enforce housekeeping standards to provide a clean, safe and organized work environment

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years Warehouse Management experience
  • 4+ years experience with People Management
  • Experience managing either one larger Distribution Center (500k+ sq ft), or multiple smaller distribution centers
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and WMS (Red Prairie and SAP a plus)
  • Excellent verbal and listening skills
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills and the ability to lead and manage people
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Excellent mathematical reasoning
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Good coordination skills -- Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions
  • Excellent problem identification skills -- Identifying the nature of problems
  • Excellent time management skills -- Managing one's own time and the time of others
  • Ability to use critical thinking -- Using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches
  • Excellent identification of key causes -- Identifying the things that must be changed to achieve a goal

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience in Big Ticket or Furniture industry
  • Customer Service experience
